Description

falco is a rather short boy with a small build; he has clipped, sandy blond hair that's very short and somewhat shaggy, while his eyes are a lovely light hazel with pretty long eyelashes that further expose a certain tender look to him. he was also officially based on jesse pinkman from the breaking bad series, as an extra visual!
the physical strength he wields is as much as you'd expect from one so young with some differences; he's not so much a man remotely built for war, but one might be able to notice that he does have elevated stamina compared to the modern twelve year old, closer to athletic. falco is a child soldier being preened since between five and seven years old while going to his first war at eight (that lasted four years). he's been trained to be able to carry heavy bags under arduous circumstances, haul rifles twice his size and dig trenches with adults.
training child soldiers in marley is a strict but common practice widely used in their warrior program, which includes: daily in-base exercise routines, terrain and weather runs, shooting, hand to hand combat, weapon disassembly, reassembly and manipulation, theoretical education among other combat-related activities. falco's world is an alternate version of earth but more closely resembles the early 1900s in terms of timeframes.

the jaw titan
Predecessor Inheritance
falco is the current holder of the jaw titan, inadvertently inheriting it from porco galliard after being forcibly turned into a mindless titan and consuming him. shifters go through a complicated process of inheritance when gaining their abilities. eldians (the only race of human that are capable of titan shifting) are transformed into a mindless “pure titan” through the injection of titan spinal fluid, and are driven to consume anything human-shaped in front of them. they must eat another shifter, or more precisely, consume their spinal fluid, to return to their human forms and gain their abilities.
marley’s warrior program uses this on a tight schedule, picking out candidates as the current titan warriors are to complete their thirteen year term, where they are then fed to their more feasible successor (in this case, these are all pre-determined and done "willingly"— falco's was not). the cycle repeats every thirteen years, as titan shifters have that shortened life span starting from the moment of their inheritance.
lastly is memory inheritance. the current shifter of a specific titan will gain, at a speed that’s personal to the shifter in question, a look into their predecessor’s memories and sometimes even wills that can stretch down to all previous holders through the intricate paths all eldians are connected through. this allows the shifter to gain knowledge on how to use the titan themselves, passed down from shifter to shifter through experiences that can be dreamed and felt as if they were their own. falco currently has potential to gain memories from both past jaw and beast titan holders, his first canon memory gain being of a beast titan in the past that could fly. memories between families are said to be passed down with more ease. contact with other shifters and eldians with royal blood are also said to quicken the rise of memories, but they’ll usually happen either way, whether triggered or not.
the jaw titan is the pitbull of the nine main titans, so to speak; they are specialized, quadruped assault units with compact, small bodies, standing at five meters in height and possibly three or so meters at width (which is not that small, compared to the average human). their limbs are quite long in contrast to their bodies, accommodating two of their most important weapons: claws and speed (x, x, x, x, x). the jaw titan's agility makes up for its smaller size and weaker build with bullet-like strikes that spring chaotic damage. lastly, what gives the jaw titan its name, its jaws have astounding crushing capabilities (x, x, x), known to break and damage just about anything— even the strongest material in the aot-verse that the larger titans can't even chip a dent in: titan crystal and hardening, of which their jaws and claws are made out of (x).
accidental consumption of wine spiked with beast titan spinal fluid gave falco beast features to his version of the jaw titan: his claws are plated with black-scaled hardening imitating talons, his jaws come shaped like a beak, and he has fluffy down feather around the head and limbs that taper into fine hairs. most recently, he's been shown to change the titan's form according to what his goal and needs are: he can give the titan wings, grows full feathers and bares a much more candid appearance of a bird, with a wingspan of ten to fifteen meters.

Shifting
for a titan shifter, shifting doesn’t mean their bodies change to accommodate a titan form, like werewolves or shapeshifters. rather than fitting into the frame, a brand new “body” is summoned from paths and rapidly forms around the shifter, starting from a skeletal structure and working through the layers of tissue from inside out. their true bodies are imbedded into the nape and connected to the titan’s central nervous system through all kinds of flesh, fiber and “nerves”. the true human body then acts as the “pilot” in the “cockpit” of an organic mecha, pretty much, controlling its movements through the fleshy links created. titans with proper mouth and lip formation are even shown to be capable of speech. while falco has both, he has an outer bone mask connected to his cheeks and mouth muscle, where we might be able to safely assume that while broken words can be possible, continuous and proper conversations are difficult to hold, like ymir’s jaw titan.
for a shifter to be able to shift comes with two prerequisites: an injury that draws blood and a set goal in mind. most shifters keep some form of hidden weapon on them to efficiently self harm to trigger the process, while impromptu emergencies are taken care of by biting the inside of their mouth, tongue or hands. when the summoning is prompted, the shifter usually gives off static before being hit by a bolt. described as an ugly sound, the shifter creates a body in an explosion that can damage those in proximate range with heat potent enough to burn human bodies to a crisp.
as mentioned earlier, a titan body can take a great deal of damage without the shifter actually feeling pain (even though they still have a sense of touch and can be injured if their nape is attacked). the site of damage almost immediately begins to steam and initiates a rapid regeneration process that produces a scorching amount of heat (of the titan’s exposed flesh). until the damage self-repairs, the titan’s body probably won’t be able to react the same way (example: slashing the eyes will take out the shifter’s vision, and severing limbs or tendons will render movement of that limb useless). titans can fully regrow a hand in minutes, for reference.
shifters can temporarily remove themselves from their control hub by a sort of semi-self ejection without necessarily disconnecting from the titan completely, shown when they need to talk to people or could use a small break (x, x). once the shifter is out of their titan completely, the titan body is useless and evaporates; all injuries that were previously dealt onto their human bodies are healed. with most of the controlling fibers connected to the face and spine, shifters present shifter lines, scars that signal their recent use of power somewhere on their face. falco’s are jagged lines that look like teeth on both sides of the maxilla and spots just beneath the eyes (x, x). in their human form, shifters can also take a hefty amount of damage compared to the average human and survive— they too will regenerate in the same steaming way, but much slower than their titan bodies. a shifter also cannot shift while they’re in the regeneration process, so gravely injuring one enough to force them into it can keep them from shifting (a common practice is severing all four limbs at once).
titan shifting is extremely taxing on the human body. after shifting, shifters can generally sleep quite a bit (some up to an entire day) to rest themselves. experienced shifters can shift up to three times in a row, but more shifting than the body could handle at the time could cause anemia, nose bleeds, weakness, fainting, failed shifts and losing mental control of the titan (it goes into an instinctual “autopilot”). overall, having a shifting ability at all cuts the shifter’s life span to less than a third of what it could’ve naturally been (teenagers die in their twenties). falco, for example, will only live to be twenty five before succumbing to illness and deterioration.
