[ well, by the time he picks up, falco is— somewhere with grass and trees, go figure. ]

—Gabi? [ immediately worried, first off, by her. second, by what she says. ] What about her?

[ he didn’t get the first part. ]

[It comes out quickly, just blurting it out. She was panicking and unsure.]

Let’s— Let’s stay calm. There’re a lot of people from the island here.

[ he nods and holds a hand up at an attempt to placate her, as if to remind her: “right?” jean and armin were fine.

but he can only do so much through a video, and he could understand the panic. ]

Did you see her somewhere?

[Okay, okay she's breathing. Calming down.]

No, I saw Jean. He said she's here. [She just wasn't sure what to do, did she just not say anything. Gabi has apologized so many times since, to Kaya, to Jean and the others. But now if she apologized they wouldn't understand why.]

There’s a big chance she’s not from then, like the others. Maybe . . . [ jean would’ve said something, like he did in regards to eren. ] If Jean didn’t say anything, none of them know.

[It might have been a good start, Gabi was still internally screaming though.]

But I know... [Yeah, Jean didn't know. But she did, and she might have been able to hide it. She was good at faking, playing innocent. But it didn't feel right after everything.]

Route 34 - HELMO GIF

[It was nice to have a route with a big strech of water they could walk by. It meant Gabi could let the aptly named Flippy the Magikarp swim alongside them. The carp pokemon kept leaping out the water, hurling herself out of the air.

Only to smack straight into a Buizel who'd stuck their head out of the water. Gabi paused, watching as the fish and the water around it started to glow.

Gabi, as cautious as she was, immediately ran to the edgy to crouch by the water and watch. She wasn't even bothered as the large shape rose out of the water and splashed her. Yes...YES! She's beautiful.]

You did it!

[She's about two seconds from jumping up and dancing, she's so excited to have the big fucking water snake. Glorious. And Flippy? She just snorted, lowering her head to be eyelevel with the two kids.]

[ falco screams and divebombs for gabi’s side in a poorly thought tackle. obviously??? something huge was in the water and then it burst and then there was suddenly a giant water dragon snake with the biggest mouth and teeth — what if tried to eat gabi!!

but, it’s not attacking them, and magikarp do evolve into . . . “you did it”?

poppy hasn’t done anything. she knows a girlfriend when she sees one. ]

. . . F-Flippy—?!

[Flippy stared for a moment, then shut her mouth. Gyarados with a closed mouth sure was a look.]

So cool...

[Sorry Gabi is no longer home. And the pokemon was too busy basking in it's new power. Lifting her tail and slamming it into the water to show off her length, she is now LORGE.]

Sh-she's huge!

[ yas girl slay, says poppie to some degree. gabi finally had some balance to her team with all those rock and ground types. she was intimidating, who would've thought that a fish could turn into something like this? falco decides to take his pokegear out to search the dex, and get out his handbook on breeding. ]

Did you know her scales are harder than steel? And she could crush stones with her teeth!

[She's beautiful Falco. And everything Falco says only makes her better. Gabi hadn't done that much reserch, she'd just been told Magikarp were worth raising. And it really was worth it. Gabi was pleased, Flippy was pleased, all was good in the world.]

I know, I can't wait till the next gym.

[The bugs had been harder than she'd expected even if she'd managed to win. With Flippy evolving and her using Strategy, winning against this Whitney leader should be easy.

Then there was a noise and...Oh, it was the Buizel Flippy had knocked out. It'd floated back to the surface with it's ring puffed up, still unconscious though.]

I read they’re going to get harder now . . . [ he didn’t have enough balls to catch this one, even if it’d be welcomed into his breeding fodder— but falco catches sight of the k.o.’d buizel and tries to reach for it from the water’s edge.

they just FOR SURE had to get through rollout. that move is going to be a monster. pack up your fighting types, kids. ]

I can’t reach it—

[ poppie comes over. looks at falco. looks at flippy. looks at falco again.

and decides the boy is due for some fun, shoving him from behind with a simple wave of her flipper. ]

[Gabi wasn't thinking that far ahead. Her stratagy had been hit hard and fast. Though she'd heard the same about the next gym, that it was dangerous. It was part of the reason she was so excited at having a Gyarados on board.

The buizel wasn't of interest to her. She just wasn't sure if they were just supposed to leave it. Normally she left the wild pokemon she thought after beating them. But... It was in water, and it didn't look like a fish. Would it drown if they lef-

Then Falco was shoved into the water. Gabi flinched, jolting nearer to the water and reaching but missing him. She could swim, he could...probably.]

Falco?

[And Flippy just snorted as this tiny child fell right next to her mouth. Enjoy the sea dragon breath.]

[ cough he manages once he breaks the surface from the top. now he’s really, really wet . . . thanks . . .

falco focuses on getting the buizel out, carrying the floating weight in an arm while reaching the the other. ]

I-I’m fine. Here—

[ poppie I’d going to slap gabi in too at three, two— ]

[The camera is a little shaky, and Riz is grinning wide enough to split his entire face. He's clearly holding the gear out with one arm, the other one wrapped around a creature who seems a little dazed and unsure of what is happening. Who is this strange boy?]

Falco? Falco, I got you one! Lemme know whenever you get the Kecleon and we can trade!

[ when falco opens the video call with his own— oh, he lets out a quiet gasp and smiles wide. how did he just go out there and— find one?! what luck! ]

Riz! Ah, look— [ falco turns the camera away from him to focus on the middle of the room he’s staying in, and holy ducking bananas that’s a lot of kecleon. they climbing all the walls, windows, beds, all them little guys with either red or blue ribbons tied around their necks. the mother is a touch camera shy and doesn’t appear fully, but sharpshooter’s red belly band is still over a spot on the bed with a cluster of the little guys. one in particular has a yellow bow on top of a blue ribbon, and it’s the one falco is focusing on. ] He’s the one! After three clutches . . .

[ his chuckle is relieved. ]

Where can we meet?

[Riz laughs, half delight and half vague terror.]

Holy shit. Look at them. That's so many lil' guys.

[He may have been hanging around Boober too much, copying his vernacular and all.]

Uh, where are you at? We're in Goldenrod City for the winter, but I can travel to any of the nearby cities.

Oh—! Same with us! We’re staying in Goldenrod!

[ for who knew how long— falco didn’t mind it. the city was so big he’s sure he hasn’t seen even half of it, yet! the resources and stores are wonderful, and maybe it’s just a little too cold to travel for long! ]

Is the Pokémon Center okay?

If you are in Goldenrod you could also drop by our place. Mando was talking about inviting you for dinner sometime anyway.

[Riz tries to avoid pokemon centres because that is where the Joys dwell. And there is something not right about those things. He assumes their identical presence is due to the same whatever was used to create the Jennies, so presumably the same person (or persons) are behind them both, and that just cannot be good.

Yes, he has never once healed his pokemon at a pokemon centre. It's fine. They can eat herbs.]

[ it does not occur to falco that the joys are an unnerving phenomena, but the mention of mando and dinner makes his cheeks go rose. ]

I can do that. Where can I go?

I'll get you the address, but I gotta check with Boober first. He's the one that cooks, so we can't just dump guests on him out of nowhere.

[He'll get very cross and sassy if you do!]
