ABILITIES
JAW TITAN
the jaw titan is the pitbull of the nine main titans, so to speak; they are specialized, quadruped assault units with compact, small bodies, standing at five meters in height and possibly three or so meters at width (which is not that small, compared to the average human). their limbs are quite long in contrast to their bodies, accommodating two of their most important weapons: claws and speed (x, x, x, x, x). the jaw titan's agility makes up for its smaller size and weaker build with bullet-like strikes that spring chaotic damage. lastly, what gives the jaw titan its name, its jaws have astounding crushing capabilities (x, x, x), known to break and damage just about anything— even the strongest material in the aot-verse that the larger titans can't even chip a dent in: titan crystal and hardening, of which their jaws and claws are made out of (x).

falco's version of the titan's claws are plated with black-scaled hardening imitating talons, his jaws come shaped like a beak, and he has fluffy down feather around the head and limbs that taper into fine hairs. most recently, he's been shown to change the titan's form according to what his goal and needs are: he can give the titan wings, grows full feathers and bares a much more candid appearance of a bird. his size surpasses those of the regular jaws and nearly doubles it, being capable of carrying five people side-by-side across his shoulders easily, not counting his back.

for a titan shifter, shifting doesn’t mean their bodies change to accommodate a titan form, like werewolves or shapeshifters. rather than fitting into the frame, a brand new “body” is summoned from paths and rapidly forms around the shifter, starting from a skeletal structure and working through the layers of tissue from inside out. their true bodies are embedded into the nape and connected to the titan’s central nervous system through all kinds of flesh, fiber and “nerves”. the true human body then acts as the “pilot” in the “cockpit” of an organic mecha, pretty much, controlling its movements through the fleshy links created. titans with proper mouth and lip formation are even shown to be capable of speech. while falco has both, he has an outer bone mask connected to his cheeks and mouth muscle, where we might be able to safely assume that while broken words can be possible, continuous and proper conversations are difficult to hold, like ymir’s jaw titan.
for a shifter to be able to shift comes with two prerequisites: an injury that draws blood and a set goal in mind. most shifters keep some form of hidden weapon on them to efficiently self-harm to trigger the process, while impromptu emergencies are taken care of by biting the inside of their mouth, tongue, or hands. when the summoning is prompted, the shifter usually gives off static before being hit by a bolt. described as an ugly sound, the shifter creates a body in an explosion that can damage those in proximate range with heat potent enough to burn human bodies to a crisp.
as mentioned earlier, a titan body can take a great deal of damage without the shifter actually feeling pain (even though they still have a sense of touch and can be injured if their nape is attacked). the site of damage almost immediately begins to steam and initiates a rapid regeneration process that produces a scorching amount of heat (of the titan’s exposed flesh). until the damage self-repairs, the titan’s body probably won’t be able to react the same way (example: slashing the eyes will take out the shifter’s vision, and severing limbs or tendons will render movement of that limb useless). titans can fully regrow a hand in minutes, for reference.
shifters can temporarily remove themselves from their control hub by a sort of semi-self ejection without necessarily disconnecting from the titan completely, shown when they need to talk to people or could use a small break (x, x). once the shifter is out of their titan completely, the titan body is useless and evaporates; all injuries that were previously dealt onto their human bodies are healed. with most of the controlling fibers connected to the face and spine, shifters present shifter lines, scars that signal their recent use of power somewhere on their face. falco’s are jagged lines that look like teeth on both sides of the maxilla and spots just beneath the eyes (x, x). in their human form, shifters can also take a hefty amount of damage compared to the average human and survive— they too will regenerate in the same steaming way, but much slower than their titan bodies. a shifter also cannot shift while they’re in the regeneration process, so gravely injuring one enough to force them into it can keep them from shifting (common practice is severing all four limbs at once).
titan shifting is extremely taxing on the human body. after shifting, shifters can generally sleep quite a bit (some up to an entire day) to rest themselves. experienced shifters can shift up to three times in a row, but more shifting than the body could handle at the time could cause anemia, nose bleeds, weakness, fainting, failed shifts and losing mental control of the titan (it goes into an instinctual “autopilot”). overall, having a shifting ability at all cuts the shifter’s life span to less than a third of what it could’ve naturally been (teenagers die in their twenties). falco, for example, will only live to be twenty-five before succumbing to illness and deterioration.

THE SILENCE
falco is patient zero and host to the silence, a parasitic entity that feeds off of negative emotions obtained from upcycle. the more corrupt falco becomes, the closer he can get to possession episodes and ultimately beasthood.

UPCYCLE SUMMARY
—One of the first he came to know and trust was The Mandalorian (The Mandalorian) and his little green companion, who Falco came to care for as family (and Mando taking care of him the same way), especially due to their military backgrounds and history. Alas, who Falco came to share a home with was an android by the name of Connor (Detroit: Become Human) and an alien space rock, Cinnabar (Houseki no Kuni).
—Things were alright, if not a little eerie until the first event: the fog came, and so did the malignant spirits haunting their "homes", who took the form of their loved ones attempting to kill them.
—Falco quickly learned that it wasn't only the spirits of the island that were after them and capable of harm, but also the inhabitants in the same situation as them. While traveling back and forth between the homes and the safe hub, looking for people who were lost, Falco came across an android that looked (was) the Connor he lived with— except this one wanted to kill his look alike. After becoming suspicious of the android's behavior and questions, Falco refused to speak up about Connor's whereabouts, where he was then promptly shot in the stomach and stepped on.
—Luckily, he was able to heal by himself at the back end of the supermarket, but he was still frightened. Thus came his first lesson in trust: be nice, but don't trust everyone, and be ready (This also caused a miniature kill war between Uncle Mando and the robots, but that's something parallel that Falco doesn't quite know about!). From this day onward, Falco was quite uncomfortable around the Connor look-alike, and it took a while to feel safe around the actual Connor again.
—The worst of the problems was probably Falco's horrible luck. He had wanted to be of use to the adults and hadn't wanted his abilities to waste with him just sitting around; unfortunately, showing Mando his powers to prove his capability actually opened a door to Falco being infected by The Silence; a malignant spirit that feeds off of despair and constantly tries to find ways to attack the island. The mark appeared at the back of his neck and took control of his titan until he was literally pulled out of it. Things . . . might have become worse from thereon.
—Falco put himself in between the Connors' interpersonal torture-kills after finding Connor dead, and his companion, Hank (Detroit: Become Human) severely injured. The amount of panic and despair he felt triggered an opening to possession— and had him attack a priest, Father Abel Nightroad (Trinity Blood) in any way he could. Falco had little recollection of what happened towards the end, but he was aware and conscious of it and remembered as time passed and he calmed, providing a terrifying experience of getting his body hijacked.
—Learning about the possession, Jun (Tokyo Xanadu) was pinged to help exorcise the little thing; unsuccessful and painful for Falco, Jun chose to seal The Silence temporarily with a symbol that could break at any time but would serve, at the very least, as a backup plan if Falco felt too emotional.
—Lesson two: The supernatural exists, and the supernatural is dangerous.
—So, Falco was guided by NPCs to do things and consider hobbies to keep him calm and avoid the little bomb in his neck as much as possible until they had a solution. With the help of other player characters, Falco started watching anime (of the shoujo variety), reading romance novels, listening to romantic tracks from hits like Queen and Grease, and lastly, even picking up chickens as pets. The chickens were a two-in-one— The NPC Admin offered Falco a gift called "Pacify" that works off of positive spiritual energy, that with practice can literally do that: pacify combative targets for a short amount of time, but more than enough of it to save himself or someone else, under the condition that he would never use it for selfish gain, and only for his defense (so, he practiced with his two aggressive roosters).
—This wasn't so easy to master, so Falco relied on backup, sucked up his discomfort hard, and turned to firearms. After Mando found the boy at a gun shop trying to put a rifle together (impressively), Mando then gave him one of his guns with seven rounds. Of course, not completely a fan of the idea, he hid it under one of his room's floorboards— but he did always carry a knife around in case he had to turn (then the narrator says: that wasn't enough).
—The last of Falco's escapades had to do with, again, wedging himself in between a knife-gun fight. Falco used Pacify in a hurry to calm the perpetrators down, but not having mastered it caused a backfire after a few seconds— he got stabbed and shot again by them instead of calming them down, on the receiving end of their ire rather than taking it away. This quickly brought a second NPC to the scene before something bad happened to the island thanks to The Silence.
—After that, Falco never left home without a gun (and was even scolded by Mando), and has become partial to the idea of using it in emergencies. He's even saved his enemies (the Connor look-alike, for example), which has turned tables in relationships from completely negative to seemingly neutral.
WHAT FALCO STILL HAS FROM UPCYCLE: the silence 😭 mando's pistol.
a rifletraded.WHAT FALCO NO LONGER HAS FROM UPCYCLE: pacify; exchanged for vileblood abilities.
WE'RE STILL HERE SUMMARY
—So, because of his age, Falco was sent to middle school— and it was there that he began to snuff out any oddities. Determined to help most of the stranded adults in any way he could, Falco began taking notes of what happened in the school, since he was pretty much the only non-robbie child in-game, and boy did he 1) find shit and 2) get in trouble for it. He kept all his findings in a notebook and got detention quite a few times for it, until Erwin was called in, to "discipline" his very naughty child (he didn't, but he did a good job pretending and telling off the principal to mind his own business).
— Falco's snooping for the truth of the odd town didn't stop at school! He'd constantly roam the forest, town center and the edges of the town that were weirdly blocked by police and never opened to the public. This is where he befriended Peter Parker (The Amazing Spider Man), and began doing two to three double snooping escapades that relied heavily on the duo's lying and charm. Peter had even become something of a brotherly figure to Falco. He also met Bruce Wayne (Batman) after trying to break into the Police Station the same time he was, and was entrusted with Bruce's own notebook in case anything happened to him.
—Unable to return the groundbreaking information he found at the middle school (something was very Wrong and very Suspicious), Falco was soon kidnapped along with a handful of other Player Characters, taken to a bomb shelter underneath the middle school, caged, maimed and tortured. Falco himself had gotten a traumatic mandibulectomy, robbification (a sort of mind control) and gained a brand new pair of metal mandibles resembling a beak. It hurt, and for nights it had caused him to become jumpy and frightened of closed spaces and the smell of anesthetic. He even had a moment of hysterics and disbelief, even distrust that humanity, or anyone, would be capable of this— but then he remembered, something back in his real home: they damn are and he should remember that, clearly.
—The remaining PCs managed to find Falco's notebook along with questioning NPCs to pinpoint where they were; Falco was saved by Angelo (Gundam Unicorn), who sparked his desire to survive to overcome his fear, run and escape the possessed dolls that attacked those who tried to leave. After getting some rest and returning home, Falco spent a great deal of time retracted into himself. He became more quiet and self-conscious of his injuries, tending to walk about with a scarf to cover his mandibles. He couldn't speak, so he learned how to sign American Sign Language with the help of Rapunzel (Disney's Tangled Series). He also became increasingly bothered when alone or in areas that weren't comfortably populated, tending to stick closely to Erwin's side reading books with him, doing errands with Cassandra or strolling around town where he knew there would always be people (the shopping center, for example).
—Falco met Archer (Archer) at the mall after asking the man, who worked at a hunting store, if he could practice shooting. Rattled by what happened, Falco had developed a greater need to defend himself and others even if it meant he'd use firearms and weaponry— he just got kicked out with a toy gun, lol. At least He and Erwin were friends, it made it (slightly) easier on Falco.
—Lastly comes Levi Ackerman (Attack on Titan), who Falco asks for a favor after being unable to walk about with the mandible, especially after figuring out his powers had returned; it took a tremendous amount of guts, but already trusting Levi due to his closeness with Erwin, Falco asked if Levi could remove the Mandibles and the device that had been implanted on his back (hilariously enough, this tracker sounded an alarm whenever Falco heard a swear or was around Adult Content). Physically knocking the boy unconscious, Levi did what had to be done, and by now, Falco's physical wounds were gone.

D'S BITE
in the up sides! D's bite overpowers other curse effects without necessarily removing benefits they offer. and it's own benefits that can include functional immortality (no lifespan limits) various levels of regeneration (any wound that doesn't kill you will eventually fully recover except for full body dismemberment), seeing in the dark, strength/agility
oh, and thirst for blood in the negatives even though there's no physical need for it
bite victims will often do self biting or bite one another (if they're around others) to ease the urge. it's more like a drug habit than a hunger
