ABILITIES
JAW TITAN
the jaw titan is the pitbull of the nine main titans, so to speak; they are specialized, quadruped assault units with compact, small bodies, standing at five meters in height and possibly three or so meters at width (which is not that small, compared to the average human). their limbs are quite long in contrast to their bodies, accommodating two of their most important weapons: claws and speed (x, x, x, x, x). the jaw titan's agility makes up for its smaller size and weaker build with bullet-like strikes that spring chaotic damage. lastly, what gives the jaw titan its name, its jaws have astounding crushing capabilities (x, x, x), known to break and damage just about anything— even the strongest material in the aot-verse that the larger titans can't even chip a dent in: titan crystal and hardening, of which their jaws and claws are made out of (x).

falco's version of the titan's claws are plated with black-scaled hardening imitating talons, his jaws come shaped like a beak, and he has fluffy down feather around the head and limbs that taper into fine hairs. most recently, he's been shown to change the titan's form according to what his goal and needs are: he can give the titan wings, grows full feathers and bares a much more candid appearance of a bird. his size surpasses those of the regular jaws and nearly doubles it, being capable of carrying five people side-by-side across his shoulders easily, not counting his back.

i use wyverns for flight and movement references because of size and the wing similarities: x x x x x x x x

for a titan shifter, shifting doesn’t mean their bodies change to accommodate a titan form, like werewolves or shapeshifters. rather than fitting into the frame, a brand new “body” is summoned from paths and rapidly forms around the shifter, starting from a skeletal structure and working through the layers of tissue from inside out. their true bodies are embedded into the nape and connected to the titan’s central nervous system through all kinds of flesh, fiber and “nerves”. the true human body then acts as the “pilot” in the “cockpit” of an organic mecha, pretty much, controlling its movements through the fleshy links created. titans with proper mouth and lip formation are even shown to be capable of speech. while falco has both, he has an outer bone mask connected to his cheeks and mouth muscle, where we might be able to safely assume that while broken words can be possible, continuous and proper conversations are difficult to hold, like ymir’s jaw titan.

for a shifter to be able to shift comes with two prerequisites: an injury that draws blood and a set goal in mind. most shifters keep some form of hidden weapon on them to efficiently self-harm to trigger the process, while impromptu emergencies are taken care of by biting the inside of their mouth, tongue, or hands. when the summoning is prompted, the shifter usually gives off static before being hit by a bolt. described as an ugly sound, the shifter creates a body in an explosion that can damage those in proximate range with heat potent enough to burn human bodies to a crisp.

as mentioned earlier, a titan body can take a great deal of damage without the shifter actually feeling pain (even though they still have a sense of touch and can be injured if their nape is attacked). the site of damage almost immediately begins to steam and initiates a rapid regeneration process that produces a scorching amount of heat (of the titan’s exposed flesh). until the damage self-repairs, the titan’s body probably won’t be able to react the same way (example: slashing the eyes will take out the shifter’s vision, and severing limbs or tendons will render movement of that limb useless). titans can fully regrow a hand in minutes, for reference.

shifters can temporarily remove themselves from their control hub by a sort of semi-self ejection without necessarily disconnecting from the titan completely, shown when they need to talk to people or could use a small break (x, x). once the shifter is out of their titan completely, the titan body is useless and evaporates; all injuries that were previously dealt onto their human bodies are healed. with most of the controlling fibers connected to the face and spine, shifters present shifter lines, scars that signal their recent use of power somewhere on their face. falco’s are jagged lines that look like teeth on both sides of the maxilla and spots just beneath the eyes (x, x). in their human form, shifters can also take a hefty amount of damage compared to the average human and survive— they too will regenerate in the same steaming way, but much slower than their titan bodies. a shifter also cannot shift while they’re in the regeneration process, so gravely injuring one enough to force them into it can keep them from shifting (common practice is severing all four limbs at once).

titan shifting is extremely taxing on the human body. after shifting, shifters can generally sleep quite a bit (some up to an entire day) to rest themselves. experienced shifters can shift up to three times in a row, but more shifting than the body could handle at the time could cause anemia, nose bleeds, weakness, fainting, failed shifts and losing mental control of the titan (it goes into an instinctual “autopilot”). overall, having a shifting ability at all cuts the shifter’s life span to less than a third of what it could’ve naturally been (teenagers die in their twenties). falco, for example, will only live to be twenty-five before succumbing to illness and deterioration.
THE SILENCE
falco is patient zero and host to the silence, a parasitic entity that feeds off of negative emotions obtained from upcycle. the more corrupt falco becomes, the closer he can get to possession episodes and ultimately beasthood.
VILEBLOOD
